Livingston Volunteer Fire Department.

 

  • The Livingston Volunteer Fire Department provides Livingston and the surrounding area with fire prevention, fire protection, medical first responders, rescue operations and hazardous material responses.
  • The department covers 250 square miles of property in its initial response area and provides mutual aid to the other ten fire departments in Polk County.
  • During the past year, the department responded to 795 calls for service.
  • In February, the department received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA ($79,000) to replace 23 sets of protective clothing and a breathing air compressor that had been in use since 1984.
  • In March, the department held its annual fire training school, attended by over 400 students and instructors.
  • In October, the department received a Texas Forest Service grant in the amount of $18,000 for a Skid Unit to place a third brush truck into service.
  • Throughout the year, the members of the department attended training at various locations to meet their continuing education requirements; the department also provided fire prevention and fire safety programs to schools, civic groups and service organizations throughout the county.
