1. How long do I have to take care of a traffic ticket?

You must enter a plea on each violation no later than the appearance date on the citation. You may plea Not Guilty, Guilty, or No Contest.

2. What is No Contest?

Please of No Contest mean that you do not contest the charges filed against you, but a guilty judgment will be entered and a fine assessed.

3. If I plead Not Guilty, what will happen then?

When you enter a plea of Not Guilty, you will be notified by certified mail when you must appear for trial and any other required procedures. You have a right to a jury trial if you request one.

4. Can I get a payment plan or an extension?

You have to appear in person before the Judge to request either a payment plan or an extension.

5. Can I take Defensive Driving to dismiss this citation?

If you have not had Defensive Driving in the preceding 12 months and you have a valid Texas Drivers License and proof of financial responsibility, you may qualify to have one charge dismissed by taking a course. However, you cannot take Defensive Driving for the following violations:

- Any Offense in a Construction Zone With Workers Present
- Any Traffic Offense With a CDL
- Fleeing a Police Officer
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Passing a School Bus
- Reckless Driving
- Speeding 25 Mph Over the Posted Limit

If you meet the qualifications, you must request in writing, permission to take Defensive Driving, pay the court costs and state tax and enter a written plea of Guilty or No Contest. You will have ninety (90) days to complete the course and file the completion certificate with the Court.

6. What citations are dismissed?

Proof of Financial Responsibility violations may be dismissed if valid proof of financial responsibility in effect on the date of the offense is presented to the court. Expired Inspection Sticker violations may be dismissed if valid proof that the inspection sticker violation was corrected within ten days of violation is presented to the court and an administration fee is paid.

1. How do I sign up for EFT?

Simply print and complete the form, sign it and return it to the City of Livingston with a voided check (deposit slips and photocopies cannot be processed). View the EFT Sign-Up Form (PDF).

2. When will the automatic payments begin?

Automatic payments won't start until your next billing cycle at the earliest. Your next bill should include a statement message informing you that we have set up your account on EFT.

Be sure to pay your current bill!

3. Who is eligible to participate?

The EFT payment option is available to all City of Livingston customers with an account in good credit-standing.

4. May I use my savings account to pay my bill?

No, only checking accounts qualify for EFT.

5. Will I still receive a bill in the mail?

Yes. You will still receive your bill at the first of the month, but you will not pay this bill. The amount due will be transferred from your bank account on the 10th of each month.

6. What if I don't agree with the amount charged?

If for any reason you wish to dispute your billing, please contact the City of Livingston as soon as you receive the bill so that we can investigate the complaint.

7. Is there a charge for this service?

There is no charge by the City of Livingston for this service. However, some financial institutions may charge for automatic payments. Ask your bank about possible fees.

8. Where can I find my utility account number?

Your account number is located on the top right-hand side of your bill and is ten digits long.

9. What if I change banks or accounts?

Simply call us at least 10 days before your utility bill due date and tell us your account has changed. We will need a new voided check to make the change on your utility account.

10. Can I pay multiple accounts through this program?

Yes. As long as you want each account to be paid from the same bank account, you can sign up multiple accounts under the EFT program. Simply photocopy the form and complete a separate form for each account. View the EFT Sign-Up Form (PDF).

11. What if a payment is returned by my bank?

Payments may be returned by a financial institution for insufficient funds, closed accounts or other reasons. If your payment is returned for any reason, we reserve the right to charge you a $25 processing fee. The City of Livingston also reserves the right to discontinue your participation in the EFT program if your payment is rejected. Your financial institution may also charge fees for rejected payments.

12. Is it safe and secure?

Yes, both the City of Livingston and our financial institutions are required to keep your banking information confidential.

13. How do I stop participation in the program?

Simply call the City of Livingston at the number printed on your bill at least 5 days prior to the 10th and notify us that you would like to stop EFT. Your request will become effective immediately after we receive your notification.
